I love this artist I just found on the Japanese artists’ site pixiv, Shimizu.  I love everything about their style right down to the patina on the sketchbook.  You’ll love it too, especially if you are a fan of Top Gear, Doctor Who, Sherlock…I saw at least one great sketch of Tom Hiddleston as well.  Check it out–Shimizu’s work can be found here–

If I lived in the UK, I could see Benedict Cumberbatch on Top Gear tonight.  As it is, I’ll be seeing it a week from Monday.  Have I stuck by my ban on Top Gear-related Tumblr posts?  No….Not since the series premiere. But seeing a few screen caps out of context don’t really spoil anything. I’m just going to be having this sense of deja vu with every episode I watch.

A Brit a Day [#1151]

Normally, because I live in California, when I like an American TV show I have to stay off the internet [specifically Tumblr] for 3 hours before a new episode airs here in the Pacific time zone if I don’t want it to be spoiled.  For new episodes of ‘Doctor Who’ on BBC America, the ban increases to 8 hours.  But because BBCA delays new episodes of ‘Top Gear’ by so long, I will have to censor my internet use for each episode of the new series for 8 days!  My self-imposed blackouts will overlap!! That effectively means all summer.  I can’t go all summer without typing ‘james may’ into a search engine.  And my Tumblr dashboard will explode from the built up pressure of unread posts.

Good thing I’m going to take a week’s break from this blog to go to Anime Expo in LA.  Good thing live coverage of the Tour de France has begun.  That will keep me occupied until the third week in July.  And if I miss a stage, all I have to avoid is the news.

Comic Con 2013 is in less than 2 months!  I wish this guy[Jeremy Clarkson, below] and his crew would make an appearance there.  If Mythbusters do, then why not Top Gear?  Is it because they don’t want to step on the toes of their American counterparts?  That has never stopped them from going to Australia. They would bring down Hall H.  
Really, though, San Diego needs a Brit Fest.

If you’ve been watching reruns of ‘Top Gear’ on BBC America, then you may know that they showed the Botswana special today, reintroducing us to Oliver the 1963 Opel Kadett, possibly the only car on ‘Top Gear’ ever to receive a name.  One fan has rendered Oliver lovingly and painstakingly as a precious plushy–for more pictures of her project and the story of its construction, please go here:
